We hope that everyone had a fantastic Christmas and New Years holiday. We are back in the swing of things now and we are excited about the licensing visit coming up on January 11th. We are ready for the Ministry and we look forward to in the coming weeks get approval to extend our hours from 7am to 6pm and to also have the wonderful babies, who have been patiently waiting for us to join our growing centre. Look out for the information about our grand opening coming soon!

Building Update - Early November

We have had a extremely busy month, with all the little bits of our extension finally coming together. With the council inspection fast approaching we have been rushing to have all the final touches put on the beautiful new area.

We now have all the units and the plumbing has been completed. We are working on the power etc and this shou.d be finished in the next couple of days.

We also had a special delivery of all our furniture and equipment on what can only be described as a 'HUGE' truck all the way from Nelson.

We are slowly getting there and if you know anyone who is interested in coming to have a look at the centre and/or enrolling their child (under 2's spaces available) they can contact me or the staff on (09) 832 4740 or amy@pineapplesearlylearning.co.nz

Building Update - October

Our new extension is progressing nicely and the vinyl has been laid and is now ready for the painting to start this week.

Our lovely builders have been back this week and have completed the back steps in the under 2 area for us.

We had a very busy Labour weekend as filled the sandpit up with new sand, ready for our licensing visit in the coming weeks. We have also progressed nicely with the old playground area, it is now lower and within regulations. It has also been made ready for the delivery of the bark next week.

Hope you like all the progress that is happening and we look forward to updating you next month.

National Shake Out

12/10/2018

Kia ora Whanau,

We have decided that we will be participating in the National Shake Out 2018 - which is a nation-wide earthquake drill held on Thursday 18th October 2018.

Over the coming days we will be introducing and discussing the drill with the children during mat-times and throughout the day. We will also be taking the opportunity to discuss and explore with the children what an earthquake is, and how it happens.

This is all part of our emergency planning programme and our developing our preparedness in the event that we may have an earthquake.

We will be teaching our children how to:

1) Identify safe places to Drop, Cover and Hold within your school/ECE and practise the Drop, Cover and Hold drill with your staff and students.
2) DROP down on your hands and knees. This protects you from falling but lets you move if you need to.
3) COVER your head and neck (or your entire body if possible) under a sturdy table or desk (if it is within a few steps of you).
4) HOLD on to your shelter (or your position to protect your head and neck) until the shaking stops. If the shaking shifts your shelter around, move with it.
5) If there is no shelter nearby, or you are outside, DROP down on your hands and knees and COVER your head and neck with your arms and hands, and HOLD on.

If you would like to know more about this you can visit: https://www.shakeout.govt.nz
or if you have any questions please see the teachers.

Nga mihi,
Amy

Morning Activities

11/10/2018

Hi everyone,
It was great to get such positive feed back from last weeks ‘announcement’.

This week I’d like to tell you that we are going to reinstate the morning routine that we stopped many months ago (before Amy came).  After much discussion between ourselves (teachers) and consideration of what you the parents have feed back to us through the questioner and face to face we have decided stopping this was ill-advised.
For those new to the centre the routine consisted of each day each child spending a few minutes, at entry time or when they arrived going through the letters of their name one day the next day doing numbers and the next going through a sheet of shapes in different colours. We then repeat the cycle so over several weeks every child will be exposed to each, letters, numbers, shapes and colours.
We would love it if you could help your child find their name card from the wall then get them to come to a teacher, who will be sitting in front of the table by the door.  After your child has done their ‘job’ this can be a great time to say goodbye and leave.  If your child needs a bit of help they can then sit with the teacher and help the next child.

As always, any questions or comments please don’t hesitate to come and have a chat with any of us.

Lara and the team.
